Start with where the cycle stopped
A dishwasher may leave water because drainage is restricted, the pump cannot move water or the control never completed the drain command. The timing and sound of the failure provide useful clues.
A recently changed sink, disposal or drain connection can also affect the appliance without creating an internal dishwasher failure.
Leaks change the priority
If water is reaching the floor or electrical connections, stop the cycle and shut off the appropriate supply. Protecting the property takes priority over repeating the cycle.
Do not tip a water-filled dishwasher or remove built-in panels unless you can do so safely.
Prepare for diagnosis
Leave the standing water in place when safe and photograph any error code. Tell the technician whether the sink also drains slowly and whether the dishwasher was recently installed or moved.
