How to Prepare for an Appliance Service Visit

A few simple steps can make diagnosis safer, faster and more accurate.

Provide the right information

When scheduling, identify the appliance type, brand, main symptom and service address. If available, include the model number and any error code.

Explain whether the problem is constant or intermittent and mention leaks, burning smells, tripped breakers or unusual noise.

Create safe access

Clear normal household items from around the appliance and secure pets. Do not pull out heavy built-in or gas-connected equipment unless instructed.

An adult authorized to approve work should be available during the appointment, in person or through an agreed communication method.

Keep the symptom available when safe

Avoid resetting electronic controls immediately before the visit unless needed for safety. Error histories and current symptoms can help diagnosis.

If the appliance presents an electrical, gas, flooding or fire hazard, stop using it and follow appropriate emergency or utility guidance.

Safety note

This information is general and is not a substitute for model-specific instructions or professional diagnosis. Stop using an appliance if there is a risk of fire, electrical shock, gas, flooding or injury.
